Prep to Year 2
Early Education

Where Learning Begins

The educational program provides a continuum of learning for students in each year of schooling from Prep to Year 12.  It is attentive to the individual needs of each student and provides a clearly defined continuum.  It offers several pathways allowing educators to individualise learning to best meet the needs of each student.

FACILITIES

All the buildings and facilities at Faith Baptist Christian School are modern and include computing facilities in each classroom, library and resource building, AV room, conference room, auditorium, indoor hall, kitchen facility, science lab, arts room, sports facilities and equipment.  All buildings are of brick construction and air-conditioned.

The location at Burua has the school set in rural surroundings with easy access from the Dawson Highway.  The site affords adequate area for the development of extensive sports facilities and as it is situated adjacent to the El Shaddai Ranch, also owned by Faith Baptist Church, it has the potential for considerable extra-curricular and recreational activities.

PREP ADMISSIONS

Eligibility for enrolment in Prep shall be only for those children five years of age on or before June 30 in the year of enrolment.

Prep

The school’s Prep program covers the skills which prepare a child to be ready to learn to read. This explicit phonetic program provides the student with a strong literacy foundation on which they will build future learning.  All activities are structured to develop and strengthen phonetic knowledge and understanding, fine motor, gross motor, coordination, visual, auditory, communication and social skills.

Students learn through play, direct instruction and group activities. They have opportunity to learn as they discover, create, imagine and interact with others.  Learning is supported through meaningful and challenging experiences and interactions which cultivate creative and critical thinking.

Year 1 & 2

In Year 1 students engage in an intense 12-15 week phonics-based learning-to-read program which promotes a strong foundation of literacy and numeracy skills which enable student’s knowledge, understanding and skills for ongoing learning, across all learning areas.

At the completion of this program students are reading with significant independence and fluency.  Students have ongoing learning opportunities in Year 2 that develop their skills as they engage in a variety of learning activities.
